The xTool F1 is lightning fast, but getting flawless, wrap-around rotary engravings on tumblers, rings, or glassware can be tricky if your setup is slightly off.

Here are 5 essential tips to get razor-sharp rotary results every single time:

1. Ditch the Rollers—Use the Chuck!

While the roller attachment works fine for plain, straight cylinders, always switch to the Chuck module for tumblers with handles or tapered sides (like 40oz Stanley cups). The chuck grips the item securely, eliminating slippage when the galvo head fires at high speeds.

2. Get Your Focal Length Dead-Center

Because the F1 uses galvo mirrors inside a fixed hood, focus height on a curved surface is make-or-break:

• Measure the highest point of the curve (apex) using the manual focus red dots.

• Ensure your laser focal point sits right on top of that apex to prevent image distortion or blurring along the outer edges of your graphic.

3. The Tape & Level Trick

Slight slant = ruined tumbler!

• Place a tiny bubble level across the top of your tumbler before framing.

• Wrap a strip of blue painter’s tape around your engraving zone first and run a test frame or low-power pass to double-check alignment before burning directly onto the powder coating.

4. Dial In Your Wavelength

• Coated Stainless Tumblers (Yeti/Stanley): Use the Blue Diode laser to strip away the powder coat cleanly.

• Bare Metal, Rings, or Flasks: Switch to the 1064nm IR laser for smooth, permanent surface etching without using laser marking spray!

5. Prevent "Overlapped" Seams on 360° Wraps

If you're doing a full wrap and the ends overlap or leave a gap:

• Double-check your exact diameter input in xTool Creative Space (XCS) using digital calipers—don't guess!

• If using LightBurn, ensure your steps-per-rotation settings are calibrated specifically for the F1 rotary axis profile.
